Garden sauna for 6 people: when a big sauna makes sense
Thinking of a large garden sauna for six people? Who really needs one, heat-up times, stove and wiring requirements, and a sensible compromise.

If you are unsure, the 3 m barrel sauna is the safest choice. That is no coincidence: from this length the sauna is no longer only for two, and it is not yet awkwardly large.
Why this size
Four people sit facing each other without bumping elbows, two per bench. One person can stretch out on the lower bench.
Stove output and heat-up
About 8 kW is standard for this volume. A weaker stove struggles in winter, a stronger one costs more than it needs to.
30–35 minutes to 90 °C in summer, 40–45 in hard frost.
An electric stove of this output needs its own circuit, and some models require a three-phase supply, so check before buying.
Space in the garden
About 4.9 × 3.2 m: the sauna (about 3.4 × 2.2 m) plus a metre in front of the door and 40–50 cm on the other sides.
Weight depends on specification but is just under a tonne once assembled; the access must be at least a metre wide for carrying the elements.
Is a changing room worth it?
If the sauna is used all year round, yes. The changing room works as an air lock, so cold air does not blow straight onto the benches.
It also gives a dry place for towels, clothes and wood.
Who this size does not suit
Couples with a small garden who always use the sauna as a pair: 2 m is enough.
Large families and homes with frequent guests: a larger sauna makes sense there.
