The Boyne valley

Drogheda lies on the Boyne, close to the sea and to the green farmland of Meath. Winters are cool and damp, and a barrel sauna is a pleasant answer.

The east coast is drier than the west, but still sees plenty of rain.

Commuter estates and coastal villages

Many families live in estates around Drogheda, Laytown and Navan, with back gardens of a decent size. A 2 m or 3 m barrel fits. Coastal villages like Clogherhead and Termonfeckin have breezier plots.

The pallet arrives by tail-lift lorry, around a week after 4 to 6 weeks of production. Two adults assemble in about two days, or our crew does it from 1 390 €.

East coast living

The east coast is busy, with commuters heading to Dublin and weekenders visiting the beaches of Louth and Meath. A garden sauna fits a busy household because it offers a calm, warm room right at home.

Gardens in new estates are often small and overlooked, so think about privacy. A fence, a hedge or the side of the house can screen the cabin. Place the door so that no one sees in when it is open.

Check estate rules and covenants before you order, as some estates restrict outbuildings.

The kit is delivered on one pallet and carried in by hand, so a side passage of about one metre is usually enough.

Keeping the cabin warm and dry

After each session, leave the door ajar and the vents open for half an hour so the timber dries. Sweep out the cabin once a week and wipe the benches with a damp cloth.
