Wexford is often the sunniest county in Ireland, with long beaches. Even so, winters are cold, and a sauna extends the season.

Beaches and caravan parks

Wexford has plenty of holiday homes, campsites and glamping sites. A barrel sauna is a popular addition for small businesses, though please check licensing for commercial use.

For a private garden, a 2 m barrel on a small terrace is a quick project.

Quiet back gardens and bigger plots

Wexford has many neat bungalows and farmhouses with big, level gardens. A sauna can sit away from the house on its own slab terrace, with the door facing the path.

For a smaller garden in a town like Gorey or Enniscorthy, the 2 m barrel is enough for two or three people and leaves most of the lawn free.

Because the ground is often damp in winter, make sure the base is raised slightly above the surrounding soil and that water runs away from it, not towards it.

A first sauna evening

For a first session, heat the cabin to a moderate temperature, sit on the lower bench and stay for ten or fifteen minutes. Step outside to cool down, drink water and go back in. Many people do two or three rounds, and the second is always better than the first.

Delivery on country roads

Many Wexford properties sit off narrow country roads. Send us the address and a photo of the gate, and we will agree the drop-off point with the carrier.
